Flying Officer Steven Barrett
Flying Officer Steven Barrett left school in 2003 as a Cadet Warrant Officer having been a member of 2117 (Kenfig Hill) Squadron, Air Training Corps. During his time on the Squadron he completed a Flying Scholarship at Dundee airport flying the Katana aircraft, and also completed a Gliding Scholarship with 634 VGS, RAF St Athan.
He joined this Gliding Squadron to become a G1 Pilot on the Grob Viking and later, a B Category instructor on the Grob Vigilant Motor Glider. He went on to study Business Information Technology at The University of Wales, Swansea, and during his time there he joined the University of Wales Air Squadron flying the Grob Tutor. In 2005 he was promoted to Acting Pilot Officer to complete his time on the Squadron.
Having completed Officer training at RAFC Cranwell in 2007 he moved to RAF Wyton to complete Elementary Flying Training flying the Grob Tutor, before holding at the Air Cadet Central Gliding School, Syerston, flying both the Grob Vigilant and Viking. In August 2008 he moved to RAF Linton on Ouse where he completed Basic Fast Jet Training flying the Tucano. Flying Officer Barrett moves to RAF Valley in September 2009 where he will carry out Advanced Flying Training on the Hawk. |
